Southeast Missouri State University was one of 228 universities in the United States to be named to the 2024 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society Transfer Honor Roll.

The distinction comes after the university opened its new Admissions Transfer Center in October and added a $1,000 Transfer Academic Scholarship this fall. SEMO had previously made the list in both 2018 and 2019.

"This recognition by Phi Theta Kappa is a testament to our efforts to help any student who wants to come to SEMO," SEMO president Carlos Vargas said in a news release. "We strive to remove barriers and provide clear and accessible pathways to earning a high-quality bachelor’s degree."

To make PTK’s list, universities are judged on 40 metrics related to the “support and success” of transfer students. These metrics include bachelor’s degree completion rates, percentage of transfers enrolled, number of transfer credits allowed and how welcome transfers feel at an institution. The top 25% are named to the list.

"As we continue to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of our students, SEMO remains committed to providing support and opportunities for transfer students," Transfer Center associate director Brooke Lockhart said. "Being named to the PTK Honor Roll is an honor and underscores our dedication to making higher education accessible and attainable for all."

Students interested in transferring to SEMO must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and 24 or more transferable college hours. Students who meet beginning freshman admission requirements are also eligible.
