Craig Williams defeated five challengers to win the Republican nomination for the Cape Girardeau County coroner position in the Tuesday, Aug. 6, primary election.

Williams — who has been serving as a deputy coroner following incumbent Wavis Jordan’s removal from office in February after Jordan received felony charges accusing him of falsifying death records — received 4,167 (31.39%) of the 13,274 votes cast to defeat runner-up Mark Seesing by 417 votes.

Seesing received 3,750 (28.25%) votes, while Chad Armstrong received 2,366 (17.82%), Ted Ivie picked up 1,533 (11.55%), John Mackey got 764 (5.76%) and Jordan had 694 (5.23%).

Williams will run unopposed in November.

Public Administrator

In the county race for public administrator, Kyla Biester overcame acting administrator Laura Cassatt to receive the Republican nomination.

Biester earned 6,444 (52.26%) votes to Cassatt’s 5,886 (47.74%). Cassatt has served as acting public administrator since April 22, following the death of former administrator Lisa Reitzel.

Biester will face Libertarian Andrew Ostrowski in the November general election.

District 1 Associate Commissioner

Stephen Daume gained the Republican Party’s nod in the race for District 1 Associate Commissioner, defeating four other candidates to win the nomination to replace Associate Commissioner Paul Koeper, who is stepping down from his position at the end of his current term.

Daume, who received 2,324 (25.35%) votes, defeated runner-up Kody Thompson by just under 300 votes.

Thompson received 2,029 (22.14%) of the 9,166 total votes cast in the race, while Rex Meyr received 1,734 (18.92%), Dave Reiminger picked up 1,545 (16.86%) and Dwayne Kirchhoff recorded 1,534 (16.74%).

Daume will run unopposed in November.

Treasurer

Ronnie Maxwell will serve as the Republican nominee for treasurer after defeating challenger Matthew Henson by more than 2,500 votes.

Maxwell received 7,755 (60.29%) of the 12,863 votes cast, while Henson, chairperson for the Cape Girardeau County Republican Central Committee, received 5,108 (39.71%)

Maxwell will run unopposed in November.
