This is a beautiful butterfly native to North America. It can be seen flitting from flower to flower during the warmest months of the year. You might find one in a flower field, along a fence row or maybe even in your backyard vegetable garden.

This very nicely colored butterfly is the pipevine swallowtail. Although this butterfly only lives for one or two weeks, your odds of seeing one are pretty good if you search. Getting a nice photo may prove difficult, because these butterflies do spook rather easily.
